Sleep Disorders
Sleep disorders affect at least 40 million Americans, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Snoring, snorting, or gasping while asleep, difficulty falling or staying asleep, not dreaming, morning headaches, dry mouth, leg tingling, and acid reflux are all signs of a disorder. Without proper diagnosis and treatment, high blood pressure, memory problems, weight gain, headaches, job impairment, automobile accidents, and other issues may result.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
The most common type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which is a serious sleep disorder resulting from a collapsed or blocked airway. OSA affects at least 12 to 18 million Americans of all ages, yet more than one-half do not know they have it.

OSA Self-Test
Find out if you are at risk for OSA by completing the G.A.S.P. Questionnaire:
G.A.S.P. Questionnaire
- Have you been told (or noticed on your own) that you snore most nights?
- Have you been told (or noticed on your own) that you stop breathing or struggle to breathe in your sleep?
- Do you often feel tired, fatigued, or sleepy?
- Do you have acid indigestion or high blood pressure (and do you use medication to control it)?
- Are you overweight?
If you answered yes to 4 or 5 of these questions, your probability of OSA is 95%. If you answered yes to 2 or 3, the probability is still 50 to 75%.
